South Western and West Midlands set for recasts

PHILIP SHERRATT’s review of May timetable changes centres on postponed overhauls at two operators

After a timetable change of consolidation in December, the schedule alterations of 19 May 2019 revert to form and are more extensive. For several operators, changes originally planned for December now take place in one form or another, notably South Western Railway and West Midlands Trains which take the headlines with the most significant alterations.

SWR ADDITIONS

Beginning with SWR, the operator is advertising the addition of over 300 weekly services to its timetable. Additional peak services feature on both the Southampton and Portsmouth main lines; on the former the 18.05 and 19.05 Weymouth departures will detach a Poole portion at Southampton Central, with the Weymouth portions accelerated, amongst other evening enhancements. On Sundays, an additional 18.18 Poole to Waterloo service will call only at Bournemouth and Southampton Central.

On the Portsmouth Direct, all Monday to Saturday services will now call at Godalming, with two exceptions – the 06.15 from Portsmouth Harbour and the 17.15 from Waterloo, the latter of which is extended from Fratton to Portsmouth & Southsea and has six stops remov…
