TIMETABLE CHANGES

A PICTORIAL SELECTION OF A FEW OF THE ALTERATIONS IN THE MAY TIMETABLE

Great Eastern express: sporting a ‘Norwich in 90, Ipswich in 60’ headboard, No 90001 Crown Point speeds past the site of Parsons Heath signal box on the approach to Colchester with the inaugural 09.00 Norwich - Liverpool Street on 20 May. Four trains a day (the 09.00 and 17.00 from Norwich and the 11.00 and 19.00 from London) meet the accelerated schedule in the new timetable. Antony Guppy
Halton curve reopened: the May 2019 timetable sees the former Parliamentary service over this route replaced by an hourly rail service linking North Wales and Cheshire to Liverpool Lime Street, calling at Helsby, Frodsham, Runcorn, Liverpool South Parkway and Liverpool Lime Street. The first service to carry passengers over the line was the 08.31 from Chester to Liverpool on Sunday 19 May 2019 (pictured), operated by TfW Rail liveried No 158822. Tony Miles

More trains in Cornwall: a 2+4 ‘Castle’ HST runs over St Germans viaduct on 11 May 2019, en route from Plymouth to Penzance. The adapted rolling stock is helping to provide an enhanced service on the Cornish main line this summer, with seven extra trains a day as a prelude to the full half-hourly service in the December timetable change.
