Hundreds of enthusiasts converged on Peterborough on 7-8 September to attend a special charity railway gala, organised by Modern Railways and sister title Hornby Magazine in conjunction with GB Railfreight and the Nene Valley Railway.

GBRf supplied Class 47, 57, 66 and 69 locomotives to haul trains on the NVR on both days, and also opened their doors of their Peterborough HQ to provide a rare opportunity for visitors to tour the facilities there. Other attractions included driver experience opportunities with a GBRf ‘66’ on the NVR on Friday 6 September, a rail ale festival that evening, and a display of model railway layouts at Wansford station, organised by Hornby Magazine.

Funds raised from the gala will support the work of the MS Society, which provides support to those suffering with Multiple Sclerosis. GB Railfreight will donate funds raised from its site tours to its charity partner Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity. The total which has been raised from the event will be announced soon.
