Disruption at Felixstowe

THE PORT of Felixstowe, the largest container port in the UK, has experienced disruption following problems with a new terminal operating system. The port was forced to open a new container storage area and some vessels and cargo flows were directed away from the port as a temporary measure, with 2M (an alliance of Maersk and Mediterranean Shipping Company) redirecting a trans-Atlantic flow from Felixstowe to Liverpool in July. In an update on 7 August, the Port said that, by the end of August, measures to fine tune the system would bring productivity to the levels existing before the system was implemented.
